These are not partisan issues. Listen. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Fact check and share data. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Be kind, yet firm in standing up for the issues that matter to you, to humanity, and <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the peaceful exchange of ideas<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Climate Change and the Environment:<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rff.org\/publications\/reports\/climateinsights2020\/\">new survey conducted in August by Resources for the Future and Stanford University<\/a><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, over 80% of American adults believe that the climate has warmed over the past 100 years, and that human activity is responsible. Of those surveyed, 76% <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">believe that global temper<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">atures will continue to rise over<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> the next 100 years.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/science\/2020\/06\/23\/two-thirds-of-americans-think-government-should-do-more-on-climate\/\">Pew Research Center survey taken in May 2020<\/a>, 65 percent of Americans agree that<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> the U.S. Government should be doing more<\/span><\/b> <b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to reduce the effects of cli<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">mate change on our environment.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-18695\" src=\"https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PS_2020.06.23_government-and-climate_00-01-304x433.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"304\" height=\"433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PS_2020.06.23_government-and-climate_00-01-304x433.png 304w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PS_2020.06.23_government-and-climate_00-01-145x207.png 145w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PS_2020.06.23_government-and-climate_00-01-106x151.png 106w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PS_2020.06.23_government-and-climate_00-01-56x80.png 56w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PS_2020.06.23_government-and-climate_00-01-270x385.png 270w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PS_2020.06.23_government-and-climate_00-01-368x525.png 368w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PS_2020.06.23_government-and-climate_00-01-1x1.png 1w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PS_2020.06.23_government-and-climate_00-01-400x570.png 400w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PS_2020.06.23_government-and-climate_00-01.png 420w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 304px) 100vw, 304px\" \/>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">80% <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">of Americans agree<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> there should be tougher restrictions o<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">n power plant carbon emissions, a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">nd 84% agree there s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">hould be incentives for developing carbon <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">capture and storage technology and renewable energy sources.<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">71% of Americans agree <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">automobile <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">fuel efficiency standards <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">should be tougher<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><em>Such overwhelming agreement on climate change and the environment transcends partisan politics and political party affiliation.<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Social<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\/Economic<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Inequality:<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In 2019 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/topic\/isp\">the World Bank<\/a> ranked the U.S. as having one of the highest inequalities of wealth distribution in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">According to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Saez-Zucman_conference-draft.pdf\">study<\/a><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">conducted by the University of California \u2013 Berk<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ley, i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">n 2018, the average effective tax rate paid by the rich<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">est 400 families in the U.S. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">was 23 percent, a full percentage <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">point lower than the 24.2 percent rate paid by the bottom half of American households.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In 1980, by contrast, the 400 richest<span data-contrast=\"auto\"> families<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> had an effective tax rate of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> 47 percent. In 1960, it <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">was as high as 56 percent. The effective tax rate paid by the bottom 50 percent, by contrast, has changed little over time.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pewsocialtrends.org\/2020\/01\/09\/views-of-economic-inequality\/\">Pew Research Center study published in January<\/a> <\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">found that <\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">61% of Americans agree that social and economic inequality in the U.S. is a major problem.<\/span><\/b> <b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And according to a <\/span><\/b><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2020\/06\/21\/881477657\/poll-majority-of-americans-say-racial-discrimination-is-a-big-problem\"><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">M<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">o<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">nmouth<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> University <\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">poll <\/span><\/b><\/a><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">published in early July, m<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">o<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">re than 65 percent of Americans say<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> racial and ethnic discrimination<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, a cause of social and economic inequality,<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> is a <\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">big problem in the U.S<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18703\" src=\"https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PSDT_01.10.20_economic-inequality_0-5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"681\" srcset=\"https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PSDT_01.10.20_economic-inequality_0-5.png 600w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PSDT_01.10.20_economic-inequality_0-5-182x207.png 182w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PSDT_01.10.20_economic-inequality_0-5-381x433.png 381w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PSDT_01.10.20_economic-inequality_0-5-133x151.png 133w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PSDT_01.10.20_economic-inequality_0-5-70x80.png 70w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PSDT_01.10.20_economic-inequality_0-5-270x306.png 270w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PSDT_01.10.20_economic-inequality_0-5-368x418.png 368w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PSDT_01.10.20_economic-inequality_0-5-1x1.png 1w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/PSDT_01.10.20_economic-inequality_0-5-400x454.png 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Among those who agree that social\/economic <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">equality is a problem, t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">here is broad<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> nonpartisan support for a solution. <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">84% of Americans<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> who believ<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e economic inequality is a <\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">problem agree that part of the<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> solution should be to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Americans\u2019 overwhelming agreement on a solution to social and economic inequality transcends partisan politics and political party affiliation.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Health Care:<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Closely aligned with social\/economic equality is the issue of health care. Social\/economic equality cannot be realized unless all people have a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ccess to health care coverage that is affordable to them. Affordable health care coverage does not mean free health care coverage. Many Americans are pleased with their current health care coverage. It may also be necessary<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> to provide essential health care<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> for the poorest <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and most vulnerable <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">among us.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">According to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.commonwealthfund.org\/publications\/2020\/sep\/election-2020-battleground-state-health-care-poll\">Commonwealth Fund Healthcare poll conducted in June,<\/a> three months into the COVID-19 pandemic,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">74% of Americans \u2013 81% of Democrats\/leaning Democrat and 65% of Republicans\/leaning Republican \u2013 agree that all Americans should have the option of securing health insurance coverage through government-regulated and subsidized health plans. <\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18699\" src=\"https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2020-10-01-105151.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"966\" height=\"670\" srcset=\"https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2020-10-01-105151.png 966w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2020-10-01-105151-298x207.png 298w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2020-10-01-105151-624x433.png 624w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2020-10-01-105151-218x151.png 218w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2020-10-01-105151-768x533.png 768w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2020-10-01-105151-80x55.png 80w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2020-10-01-105151-270x187.png 270w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2020-10-01-105151-640x444.png 640w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2020-10-01-105151-770x534.png 770w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2020-10-01-105151-368x255.png 368w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2020-10-01-105151-1x1.png 1w, https:\/\/greenheart.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2020-10-01-105151-400x277.png 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 966px) 100vw, 966px\" \/>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Only 4% of Americans believe in no Government involvement of any<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> kind in assuring all Americans, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">including the elderly and the poor, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">have health care coverage.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">American<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s broadly agree on a fundamental belief that the Government has a responsibility to assure that all Americans have access to health <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">are coverage.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Such overwhelming agreement on the government\u2019s responsibility in assuring that all Americans have access to health care coverage transcends partisan politics and political party affiliation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Immigration:<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Although the majority of Americans support a temporary ban on immigration to slow the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, the<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/313106\/americans-not-less-immigration-first-time.aspx\">\u00a0majority of Americans \u2013 77% &#8211;
